Pride weekend is in full swing this weekend in Vancouver, and we hope everyone is having a fabulous time!!! After that great celebration starts another one, The Vancouver Queer Film Festival August 9th-19th 2018. The theme this year is ‘To the Moon and Back’
We are always happy to be asked to be a Community Partner and to once again have a partner screening. Let’s introduce you to this year’s film, playing Friday August 10 at 7pm at the International Village. The Director Sook-Yin Lee will be in attendance for a Q& A after the film!!! On the same day Tyler is fired from her dead-end job, she learns her estranged father, Octavio, has passed away. All her life, Tyler’s overbearing mother has lead her to believe her father wanted nothing to do with her, but after a strained meeting with Octavio’s lawyer, Tyler finds herself in possession of his decrepit and eccentric apartment—an apartment that both scares her and compels her to change her life.
Directed by the multi-talented Sook-Yin Lee a filmmaker, musician, actor, visual artist, dance-maker, and radio & TV broadcaster. The former MuchMusic VJ is a three-time Gabriel Award-winning radio and TV broadcaster know for her personal storytelling program DNTO on CBC Radio One, and the podcast Sleepover. She starred in John Cameron Mitchell’s groundbreaking movie Shortbus, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. Year of the Carnivore, Leeʼs debut feature as writer-director, stars Cristin Milioti and premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. She is in the band JOOJ with albums on Last Gang Records/eONE Music Canada. – I remember her from the band Bob’s your Uncle 🙂
