Get your Judgy pants on!

judgy-pants-to-be-worn-at-all-timesSo for our 3rd year, we decided like the 1st year,  to have the films duke it out in competition! There are going to be 4 categories, the winners of those 4 categories will then go into competition for BEST SHORT & BEST FEATURE at Cinemafantastique 3. They will be announced on the day of the festival at the Vancity Theatre in downtown Vancouver on Saturday August 26! We have some pretty cool judges that I will let you know about below ↓↓↓↓. For all those awesome individuals who are getting their asses in seats, your voices will be heard…Why?  Because we think every competition fest should have an AUDIENCE CHOICE AWARD! The winners of those will be announced a few days after the Cinemafantastique 3 mania dies down… after we count all the ballets.

So let’s introduce you to the judges….

First up we have Rob Carpenter; we have known Rob for like a thousand years, he has acted in many Creepy Six Films, as well as wearing numerous other hats: Producer, casting director, and the title that EVERY indie filmmaker knows: ‘do what it takes to get shit done’ person. Rob has also directed the award-winning short Dirty Bill of Health, and completed his 1st feature film Nutshells  (which is doing the festival circuit right now) with his film company Random Dude Films.

Next up is Paul Denis, he is a lover of movies and comics and a truly awesome individual! He was the cool cat that brought us Empire Fan Favorites on 35mm at the now-defunct Granville 7. (Thank you, Sir). You wanna talk movies over beer with an awesome individual, Paul is your guy. He knows his shit and delivers it with a big smile and zero ego; well maybe a little bit, it’s just hidden behind the charming British accent.

We also have the honour of having the multi-award-winning director Jennifer Campbell,  whose body-horror short films Bruised and Hike have made audiences squirm all over the world. We are grateful for her taking the time away from producing her first feature film to be with us at this year’s festival. Side note — If there are any producers out there looking for talented individuals, with an incredible story, you have to look this women up!

Last but not least, we have the incredible women behind Blue Girl Productions, Nadine L’Esperance. Nadine has grossed out many an audience with her award-winning short films No Pets Allowed, Granny Fuckers and Out of My Skin. She will be treating us to some Punk Rock shenanigans right before Troma’s Return to Return to Nuke’ Em High Aka Vol. 2 at this year’s festival with the banned-on-social-media music video she directed for the Gnar Gnars called Hooker Piss!

We are very grateful to all the judges for making the hard decisions they are going to have to make. The easy part will be watching the films, now they — and you — must choose. There can be only one… Well, two if you count both categories.

Enjoy!

Lloyd Kaufman and TROMA joins Cinemafantastique 3 this August…

Cinemafantastique3_8.5x11 - Updated_TromaVol2This is the Official Announcement that #Cinemafantastique 3 has the great honour of screening the #canadianpremiere of TROMA‘s Return to Return to Nuke ‘Em High aka Vol. 2 on August 26th, 2017 at the Vancity Theatre in Vancouver, BC. Tickets are available at our Film Freeway and Indiegogo pages.

Cinemafantastique 3 is an all-day genre film extravaganza (film festival!) featuring some of the most innovative and crazy genre films from all over the world, and director Lloyd Kaufman will be there in person for an audience Q&A and to sign autographs and sell Tromerchandise throughout the day! Remember, Cinemafantastique 3 will be screening VOL. 2 of Lloyd Kaufman’s Return to Nuke ‘Em High, so if you need to brush up on Vol. 1 prior to this summer’s event we suggest you get your ducks in a row and get yourself re-schooled before witnessing the film that Rogerebert.com critic Simon Abrams called “everything exploitation fans want” and “Kaufman’s angriest polemic yet, and it’s consequently his looniest.”

Saturday, August 26th at the Vancity Theatre, Vancouver, BC. Doors open at 11 AM!

“Scalarama” & the 13-Hour Horror Film Fest coming up September & October 2015

Well, we’re still winding down from this summer’s amazing Cinemafantastique fest and Vancouver’s first-ever Tromafest! But there’s more in store as we roll into the Autumn months…

Shivers Film Society is partnering with Scalarama in the UK (sponsored by the BFI) to bring a little John Waters love to the big screen. This September, the BFI and Scalarama are launching a huge John Waters 50th filmmaking anniversary retrospective. Yes, the mad genius has been making films for fifty years now! As part of this celebration, the Shivers Film Society will be presenting a Scalarama screening of John Water’s Cecil B. Demented double-billed with Troma’s Terror Firmer (directed by Lloyd Kaufman) in a night celebrating anarchy in filmmaking! Sunday, September 13th, 7:00 pm at the Norm Theatre (UBC).

Following this, in October, Cinemafantastique presents it’s first annual 13-Hour Horror Film Fest! Saturday, October 24th, starting at 11:00 am, the day will be loaded with Vampires, Bugs, Psycho Killers, Killer Machines, Giallo, Razor Blades, Hacksaws, and General Mayhem. There will be at least 6 feature films running all day, all cult/horror classics, but the catch is… we’re not going to say which films you’ll get to see on the big screen! You can guess all you want… and if you’re right, you might even get some trivia prizes! It’s going to be a fun day of horror, a few laughs, some surprises and a little trivia with some giveaways! At the Norm Theatre (UBC), Oct. 24, 11:00 am – midnight.
