Vancouver Women in Film Festival March 3rd – 8th

The Vancouver International Women in Film Festival returns this week! Hope you will be able to make it out to see some great films. In addition to film screenings, the festival offers Artist Talks (free), VR experiences (free), post screening discussions, workshops, Galas and Receptions, an Award ceremony and an International Screenplay Competition.

Vancouver International Women In Film Festival Vancouver!! March 5-10, 2019

We are delighted once again to be Community Partners with Women In Film + Television Vancouver for this awesome festival showcasing the very talented female filmmakers from around our globe. The festival is running March 5-10 at the Vancity Theatre in Vancouver, as well as film screenings, the festival offers a variety of ancillary programming including workshops, pitch sessions, panel discussions, artist talks, receptions, an awards ceremony and more. For our Community Partner film this year, we have a talented director that has played numerous times at Cinemafantastique Film Festival over the years….drum roll please….!

From Vancouver Gigi Saul Guerrero’s film LA QUINCEAÑERA !!! Running time 70min.

Alejandra’s life is about to change forever on the night of her quinceañera, a coming of age ceremony held on a girl’s fifteenth birthday. In this daring revenge tale, a young girl will learn the limits of resilience and strength as she is thrust into the most extraordinary of situations over the course of 24 hours. The director has been praised for innovative work in the horror genre and this work reflects her recognizable style of Tex-Mex grit with a touch of grindhouse and gore.

Don’t miss this BC PREMIERE screening on Saturday, March 9, 9:30 pm. There will be a Q&A with Gigi after the screening as well!! Checkout the trailer below. 30th Annual Vancouver Queer Film Festival!

Pride weekend is in full swing this weekend in Vancouver, and we hope everyone is having a fabulous time!!! After that great celebration starts another one, The Vancouver Queer Film Festival August 9th-19th 2018. The theme this year is ‘To the Moon and Back’

We are always happy to be asked to be a Community Partner and to once again have a partner screening. Let’s introduce you to this year’s film, playing Friday August 10 at 7pm at the International Village. The Director Sook-Yin Lee will be in attendance for a Q& A after the film!!! Octavio is Dead!

On the same day Tyler is fired from her dead-end job, she learns her estranged father, Octavio, has passed away. All her life, Tyler’s overbearing mother has lead her to believe her father wanted nothing to do with her, but after a strained meeting with Octavio’s lawyer, Tyler finds herself in possession of his decrepit and eccentric apartment—an apartment that both scares her and compels her to change her life.

Directed by the multi-talented Sook-Yin Lee a filmmaker, musician, actor, visual artist, dance-maker, and radio & TV broadcaster. The former MuchMusic VJ is a three-time Gabriel Award-winning radio and TV broadcaster know for her personal storytelling program DNTO on CBC Radio One, and the podcast Sleepover. She starred in John Cameron Mitchell’s groundbreaking movie Shortbus, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. Year of the Carnivore, Leeʼs debut feature as writer-director, stars Cristin Milioti and premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. She is in the band JOOJ with albums on Last Gang Records/eONE Music Canada. – I remember her from the band Bob’s your Uncle 🙂
